I miss phone service...oh, and I have news

So Patrick and I are all settled into our new place, putting things where they go, etc. Most of my stuff is put away since I haven't been working (school ended in June), but he's been working so he hasn't put as much away. We are still waiting for our phone line to work, and until that works, no internet either. We've been living there for over a month now and the issue is still not resolved. Patrick has called them numerous times, and each time they swear someone will come out and fix it. They already sent us a bill for service we don't have, so Patrick called them up and basically said we're not paying for a service we don't have. They did credit us the whole bill (which included a charge for a DSL kit we didn't get either), but it's still very frustrating. I think I'm going to have to drop an online class I'm taking because of this. Patrick's parents said I can come over and use the computer whenever I want, but I took this class because I could do it from home. I was only taking the class for shits and giggles, but still.

In other news, if you haven't already heard....I'm engaged!!! Patrick proposed while we were on vacation! We went to St. Bonaventure last weekend for a wedding (Nick Cuviello....in case any A-towners remember him). At the reception, they had an open bar with top shelf liquor, which I consumed waaaay to much of. I do know that I had a good time. In any event, I woke up the next morning really really really hungover. Patrick and I had made plans to climb to the heart, which is an area off campus, but from it you can see the campus. It's a really beautiful and peaceful spot, and he had never been there. But I was too hungover to go. I felt really bad about that. So around 11:45 (check out was at noon) I finally managed to get out of bed and move around enough to pack up my stuff and get out. We stopped at Timmy Ho's before heading to my Nana's in Orchard Park. As we were driving back by the campus to get on the highway, Pat turned onto campus. I asked him what he was doing, and he said we had one more stop to make. I was a tad confused, because: A) I was hungover like a mo-fo; B) the bookstore was closed, so we weren't stopping there; and C) we didn't know of anyone staying on campus. I asked a few questions to this effect and when he didn't answer them, I sort of figured out what was going on. (I had a gut feeling he was going to propose at Bonas, but when we didn't go to the heart ...and when his friend told me the night before he wasn't going to do it at the heart...I wasn't sure when he was going to do it) We pulled up in front of Francis Hall, where I used to live, and also the scene of our first real kiss. I got out of the car and we walked to the steps. He told me how much he loves me, and how he can't imagine his life without me. I was already crying and shaking by this point, and he got a little choked up too (he almost cried, but he likes me to point out that he did not, in fact, cry). Then he got down on one knee, showed me the ring and asked me to marry him. I squeaked out a yes, and then he reached for the wrong hand to put the ring on. Hehe. He found the correct hand eventually, and the ring is just beautiful! It's my mom's setting, with my great-grandmother's diamonds as accents on the sides. He bought a new middle stone, and it's just gorgeous. And no, we haven't set a date yet, which apparently is the next question everyone asks. I had been engaged for literally 2 hours and people want to know when we're getting married. I'm like, um, I don't know...I'm still trying to get used to the idea that I'm engaged!!

So anyhoo, that's all for now.

'Tis the season...

My Christmas shopping is almost done! In fact, I'm hoping that after this weekend, everything will be totally finished. Patrick and I are just about finished with our families (we only have to buy an Applebee's gift card for my stepsister Amber and her bf Joe). I have to get a couple of things for some teachers at school, but that's about it.

Because I'm a nerd and slightly anal, I was trying to total up last night what we spent for Christmas this year, and it was around $400, but divided by almost 20 people, we spent about $20 per person on average, which is what we wanted to do. Plus, we bought gifts together, so that only cost each of us $200. I still have to go buy Patrick's iPod today. We're getting each other iPods this year. I know he was debating between that and diamonds, and right now, I want an iPod. He can get me diamonds for our 1 year anniversary. I got him Maryland Terps fabric to make a blanket for our 6 month anniversary.

He's in Connecticut for the next few days visiting his family, and then he'll meet me in Buffalo on Wednesday. We had to get all of our shopping done now so that he could take everything in the car. There's no way I'm taking gifts on a plane. No way.

Now for the big news. Last night, while out to dinner for our 6 month anniversary, we basically told each other that we're in love with each other...although it was kind of without actually saying that. He said something about not being in love previously, and I said, "Well are you now?" And he wouldn't really answer but got this grin on his face and I was like, "So that's a yes." And if it wasn't, he'd say so.

Anyways, I should go eat some breakfast or do something productive today.

It's been a while...

I noticed that my last entry was back in October. Things just get so busy with school that I forget to update. Even as I write this, I have 2nd grade re-teach activities, as well as 3rd grade math and reading lessons to plan. However, I love you all enough to post an entry.

Money-wise, I'm doing well. I have a few hundred dollars still in my checking account, and I'm current on my cable, internet, gas & electric, water and rent. I have also done well paying back the money I borrowed from my Dad and Nana to move down here (I borrowed $600 each, and I've paid back $250 each as well). I need to start paying back student loans soon and I need to start paying off my credit card bills. However, I'm really proud of myself that I've paid each utility bill in full when it's come. I'm learning how to budget my money effectively. One of the reasons I'm doing so well is that I get paid for the trainings I have to go to. I also got over $2,000 for attending trainings over the summer to get familiar with the math and reading programs. Patrick and I split the grocery bill, and we eat in most nights. We haven't gone out to eat in a while, and we keep ordering out to a minimum. I'm really proud of myself that I'm doing ok financially at the moment. I think that was my biggest worry, and now that I have a real job with a steady income I don't want to ask my parents for money.

School is school. My kids are great, but we just had to do report cards, and many of them are not doing well at all. It's really frustrating to have your kids earning Ds and Cs, or worse. I know it's not me and I'm doing what I can, but it's still very frustrating. Plus, having to write comments on a kid that never sits still is extremely hard. I love all of my kids and I think they're great, but it's hard to find nice things to say when their high level of activity prevents them from doing anything constructive.

As of right now, I am planning to come home for a few days during Christmas. I had to write the area superintendent to get permission to take extra time off. I want to take 2 personal days to come home and visit with Nick. He graduates his A-school on December 15, and should get about a week leave, but my break from school doesn't start until the 22nd. If he only gets a week, then I won't see him, like, at all. So, I'm hoping to get permission to go, so I can buy a plane ticket sooner rather than later. I checked the other day, and I got a special offer from Southwest, so I think the ticket was less than $60 one way, which is pretty cheap. Patrick has off the week before Christmas, so he's going to Connecticut first and then he'll meet me in Buffalo. We'll ride back together. I can't see how you can deny the request; after his A school, he gets shipped out somewhere. We don't know where, and we don't know for how long.

I should get back to work now.

Observation

So today I had my first observation at school. It went really well! I got rated satisfactory which is the best you can get. I taught a phonics lesson on digraphs and it went really well. The kids were even well behaved!

Anyhoo, today Patrick and I are going grocery shopping. This is just one of the many "couple-y" things that we do. I really enjoy being around him! When I think back to my entries about him as PCB2, it makes me laugh. But, I have him now! Sometimes I still can't believe that it's been 4 months now since we've been dating officially.

Loganberry is doing well. She is finally starting to sleep most of the night with me. Before, she would just play the whole time and I couldn't sleep. Bedtime is not playtime my little kitty friend. We play a lot and she seems to enjoy cuddling.

Hopefully this weekend I can update more about what I've been doing. But for now, I have to make dinner (ravioli with homemade spaghetti sauce), and then we're going shopping. After shopping I have lots of planning to do because...

the work of a teacher is never done!!!

It's Official!

Patrick and I are now officially dating. We had to choose and anniversary date though because we have been on and off and unofficial for so long. But, in any event, we're both really happy with my interviews and the offers because it means that we can finally be together. I'm going to take the 5th grade job, but if the 3rd grade one becomes available, then that's the one I'm going to take. They're at the same school, so I can avoid the uncomfortable conversation that would ensue if they were at different ones. Patrick and I met Jayne and Cory, and really hit it off with them. We made our first friends that are also a couple (well, outside of his roommate Pat and his girlfriend Megan)! But Jayne was telling me about a friend of hers that has a townhouse and rents out a room to help afford the mortgage because housing in Maryland is so expensive. Patrick really wants me to consider it because it would make things a lot easier financially for me at the beginning. It would be in Federal Hill, which is in the city, but a nice area and not too far from Jayne and Cory, the school I'd be working at, and Patrick. So that's a nice option. I hope that works out. As much as I'd love to live on my own, I can't afford it very well right now, and I don't think I'd run into the same problems I did while I was at school.

Other than that stuff, not too much else is going on.

Letting it all Hang Out

So I had to spend $221 on a plane ticket down to Maryland. I'm flying out tomorrow afternoon/evening and coming home on Friday. I'd love to spend the weekend there but I have some stuff to do here over the weekend like certification tests. But I'm really excited because I've got interviews on Wednesday and Thursday. Patrick said he's excited for me to come down to visit.

I've been thinking a lot about him and I lately. I'll probably update a lot about that while I'm in Maryland just killing time when I'm not interviewing. But for now, I'll say that I'm really happy with where we are. He's come along way. At first, we were only quasi-dating and he wouldn't hold my hand or anything like that in public. Now, he tells people that he's seeing me and he'll hold my hand in public and sometimes even kiss me. I'm really excited at the prospect of moving down and actually being with him for once. Patrick joined his company's softball team so I get to watch their game on Thursday and meet a lot of his work friends, to whom he has mentioned me. I'm super excited!

I start at the pre-school tomorrow morning. I know it's going to be fun and that I'll get some great experience. I'll make between $8-$9 an hour, which I guess is ok. I'll be working at Blockbuster too for about another 2 months. I may do some apartment hunting when I'm not interviewing. We'll have to see. I suppose I could call the places I'm looking at and see what's what.

Well I need to shower, shave legs and other thinks (wink wink....this isn't just a business trip) and paint my nails.

My ear hurts.

I'm not sure why. I think it may have something to do with the weather lately.

I will update about Disney World at a later time. For now, I will give a brief update before I go to make some phone calls about real jobs.

I was offered a position as a lead teacher in a full day, integrated pre-school setting. It pays pretty well. I'm still working at Blockbuster, and it sucks. They now pay $7.10/hr, so that's really nice. And I still get 5 free rentals a week. Last week I watched Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and I've started Brokeback Mountain. Mr & Mrs. Smith was awesome! Really good, and I just love Brad Pitt in movies. And real life too. Brokeback is good so far, but I'm about an hour into it, so I'll let you know when I finish it. On tap for this week is 16 blocks, Firewall, Casanova, finishing Brokeback, and Rumor Has It... I hope they are good. I do love me some Heath Ledger, but really, I got Casanova because I loves me the Oliver Platt.

I got an email yesterday from a Principal at a school in Maryland asking me to come down for an interview. I think I'm going to have to go down next week, so I should look into some plane tickets. It's all very exciting. I'd be staying with Patrick, and using his car to get to my interviews. As a thank-you, I'd be sure to make him some nice dinners. Speaking of Patrick, things are going well there. He finally told his parents that we're something more than friends (apparently his mom was hounding him about it). He's been good about talking to me and stuff. He's even been a bit more romantic (for him), and so I don't have to drop "subtle" hints anymore.

I think that's about it for now.

Shuffle up and deal

So my interview yesterday went super well. The lady loved me! I interviewed for a lead teacher position at Discovery Kids Learning Center. I'd be the lead teacher in the full day, integrated preschool classroom. This means that I'd be teaching "typical" kids and kids with developmental delays. It sounds like a great opportunity and I'm really exctied about it. The woman told me at the end that she's going to strongly recommend that they hire me, and I'm at the top of her candidate list. So that's promising. I don't know how much it pays, but my stepmom found a job order for the center, and a teacher's aide position pays $7-10/hr, so a teacher's gotta make more than that. I'm supposed to hear back from her on Thursday or Friday.

Even if I get the preschool job, I'll still need to work at Blockbuster just to make some extra money and pay off my Old Navy card. Or, as I like to refer to it, the devil card. I got so addicted to shopping. Ugh. But, I'll also need to save money for moving. If I get in with Baltimore County, I'll hopefully get the relocation stipend and the $5k bonus for special ed. That would make things so much easier for moving and living for a few months. I'll have to get furniture, etc. I'm looking at apartments, and I've found some really nice ones in the $500-$650/month range. I definitely want a 1 bedroom, with lots of closet space. I need space for my shoes and clothes people! My mom sent me one that she found online and it had like 1 closet. Seriously. I need more space than that. I also want one that allows pets in case I decide to get a cat or something.

Things with Patrick are going well. We are taking a mini-vacation in July. We are camping at 8th lake for the weekend, but I know we'll be spending a lot of time with my family. But still, it'll be nice for us to have some time to do things by ourselves. I'm trying to figure out some things for us to do, but I'm not sure what else my large extended family has planned. I'm thinking that it might be best to plan some things that can easily be moved around in case something comes up. We're looking at some white water rafting on the wild and crazy Moose River, hiking up some mountains, and the classic Nutty Putty. Think putt-putt but more ghetto. It's so much fun though!

Well, I've got a lot of stuff to do today before friggin Blockbuster at 6. Bye for now.

You are a Slutcom 2, also known as the a lil' sleazy level of slutcom. You hook up with people on a semi-regular basis. You may hook up with random people sometimes, especially in a drunken stupor. How far you go will vary widely, but the options are more open and based on the heat of the moment. You hook up more than average, but that's OK.

Harry Potter at the stroke of midnight

If you don't want to know about the movie then don't read this entry.

You could definitly tell there was a new director. Visually, it was very stunning and I liked the way that it just seemed darker from the outset.

I agree with Jen Rhee that it seemed rushed and kind of jumpy, and I honestly wouldn't have minded it being a bit longer. 2 hours seems to be standard for a movie now, and hell, LOTR was 3+ hours long. I felt they left a lot out, mostly how James Potter knew Sirius, Pettigrew and Lupin. The scene where Harry, Ron, Hermione, Snape, Pettigrew, Black, and Lupin are in the Shrieking Shack was, in the book at least, a very important scene when everything is explained to Harry.

There wasn't nearly enough Alan Rickman in this one either. But I own the other 2 and Dogma so I can watch him whenever I want.

Back to my gripes about this one. I think we all a greed afterwards that we are purists and would rather have seen the director just follow the book as Chris Columbus did. I read a review of the movie that said this one was too long and Columbus did a crappy job directing the first 2. The books are fantastic and do not need any altering/changing, so all Columbus did was bring to life the books.

I can't wait for this one to come out on DVD so I can watch the deleted scenes. I wish they'd come out with an extended version too. All in all, I enjoyed the movie simply because I love Harry Potter.

Stolen from Dori who stole it from Tasha that I don't know..

1. Go to your lj archives
2. Find your 23rd post
3. Copy the 5th sentence
4. Post below with these instructions:

My mom would shit herself and then demand the school launch an investigation since I obviously would've cheated.

Ah, the good old days of me doing well in school. This semester's almost over and I can't wait. Then I'll have more free time and I can work more hours and roll in the dough.

Anyhoo, no word yet from Aaron. Disappointing. Still don't know if he has a girlfriend or not. I hope not, because he's a really great guy and I'd like that option available if it should work out. I do plan on going to Blockbuster today before I go to my Dad's and try to talk to him. Plus I want Pretty Woman & the Sweetest Thing for $30.

I've decided on my Mom's mother's day gift. We've never had a portrait of just her, me & Nick so I'll set something up whereby we get one done. I think she'll like that. The tricky part is to not make Mark feel left out, so maybe we'll get one with all of us in it too. I have to research this further.

There's not much else to report other than I'm dying for Aaron to call me. And I look cute today in a tube top & cropped/capri pants from aero. Which I most definitly plan on wearing to Blockbuster today.

A milestone has been reached

Yesterday I woke up at the ungodly hour of 7am on a Tuesday. Normally 7am would not be such an ungodly hour, but Tuesday is my off day from school and I generally don't rise until 12noon or so. But it was a super-special occasion. The President was going to be in town for 2 hours, and I wanted to protest and get a few pics while I was at it.

So I woke up and spent 20 minutes trying to decide what to wear. What does one wear to a protest? I wasn't planning on breaking any fences or trying to outrun the cops, so I decided to go with my usual sandals, praying for no rain. After that, I ran over to Caffe Aroma to get a Mocha to give me a crazy caffiene jolt to get me through the day. By the way, I think the milk was spoiled or something...it tasted weird so I dumped it on my lawn. Then I sat in the way back of Bambi and waited for Krissy to arrive. When she arrived (sans Tom) we put the signs in my car and headed off to Kleinhans. We had to park on Summer because they had the area around Kleinhans blocked off. When we first got there it was about 8am so people just wandered around checking out signs. Among the notables who put in an appearance at the protest: Sponge Bob Squarepants, TreeMan (I'm assuming an environmentalist...he looked like some sort of shrubbery riding a bike), Santa Claus, and the Raging Grannies.

The protest was fun, but we didn't get to see Bush. He ducked in a tent set up diagaonlly from the Richmond Ave. entrance into Symphony Circle. Boo. More update later since I'm actually going to my 11am class today.

3rd time's the charm

Ok, normally I don't update 3 times in one day, but this is important.

Well, kind of. I was walking over to the admissions/financial aid building and this girl is wearing a cute skirt and cute shoes in front of me. However, there is a slight wind and as a result I discovered that she either does not believe in underwear or she is wearing a thong. And it would be forgivable if it happened one time. But my whole walk there? It was hard not to look as she was in my sightline of the building. I mean, her ass was decent enough that she could pull it off, but please; I know what a female ass looks like. And if I ever get super desperate to need to see one, I have my own and a mirror, thank you very much.

Just had to rant. Don't even get me started on Stacy's profile. It should come with a warning: Do Not Read Without Vomit Bucket Present. At the end it's like, Mike Swope, you're an amazing bf and I'll be your girl forever. ::spewing chunks:: Yes, I have some pent up resentment because he "chose" her over me, but it's just like I feel like people that always talk about how in love they are usually aren't. Arrrgh. Oh well. It's not that I want to be with Mike, it's just that I now somehow feel inferior to Stacy because she's somehow better than me? Girls, you know what I mean.

Adios kiddies.

Coming down the stretch...

So far, Karen and Jen are tied for the lead with 7 correct. Kirstin is close behind with 6 correct. Tomorrow while I'm at school on break from class I'll post the answers.

Nothing else worthy of reporting. I made dinner last night. The salt potatos were too salty.

Gonna make your brain hurt

Some fun brain teasers from my Exceptional Education class:

Does England have a Fourth of July?

Why can't you bury a guy west of the Mississippi?

In a room with a match, kerosene lamp, wood stove and an oil heater, which do you light first?

How many months have 28 days?

A doctor gives you 3 pills to take every half hour. How long will they last you?

4 words on every U.S. coin.

Divide 30 by 1/2 and add 10. What number do you get?

How many of each animal did Moses bring on the ark?

How far can a dog run into the woods?

Who ever gets the most right will win an exciting night with.......ME!!

Good luck to all.

P.S.

I watched Say Anything with John Cusack and I cried. Amazing chick flick. If you haven't seen it, you must rent it IMMEDIATELY.

And no calls from Norton. Fuck him. When he grows up and figures out what he wants he knows how to get ahold of me. I'm done with it.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Just one more thing... One thing?

I forgot to mention that part of the reason I want to exercise a lot is that I'm planning a trip down to Bonaventureland for the Spring Weekend festivities. I want to make sure I look damn good so Pete can see just what he's missing. Maybe I'll makeout with someone when he's looking to make him jealous. Heheh...
